I’ll admit it…I’m am completely and utterly anal about my guitar being in tune. When I teach I am pretty finicky about my student’s guitars being in tune. I HATE playing an out of tune guitar. To my ear, the worst sounding notes on any guitar are the 1st fret (G#) on the third string and the second fret (C#) on the second string. I try to avoid those notes on my guitars if at all possible.

I have toyed with the idea of having my guitars set up with a compensated system, most likely the Earvana system but I’ve had technicians talk me out of it every time. Maybe one day I’ll take the plunge.

In the meantime, Paul over at the Guitar Noize blog has written a nice piece on tuning and compensating for different playing styles and where on the neck you’ll be concentrating. You can find the post here.
