The 1980s were a magical time for rock guitarists. One had to know their instrument like the back of their hand and be able to shred like crazy at a moment’s notice. And you had to play pink super-Strats with pointy headstocks and tease your hair up to impossible heights.

Paul Gilbert was one of the “second wave” of shredders–guys that benefitted from the trails blazed by Eddie, Yngwie, Vai, and Satriani. This solo still amazes and inspires me today.
